In the Dough Drums In December
[NEWSFLASH at 18 DEC - DURIANS ARE AVAILABLE AGAIN!!!! HAPPY TIMES!] It's strange how the papers only hightlighted the increase in the price of flour, that shot up by nearly 60% in one fell swoop. A kilo that previously cost RM1.70 is now RM2.70. But an increase in FLOUR alone, doesn't really affect the price of cake per se, especially some cakes that aren't very flour reliant. What the papers DIDN'T HIGHLIGHT is the increase in VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING ELSE, from Philadelphia Cream Cheese, by about 14%, butter, by about 16%, nuts, by 10%, because percentage wise, I guess these rises aren't as startling as 60% for flour. BUT, these items, in terms of absolute cost, ARE a lot more. I can actually now understand WHY retailers actually HAVE to increase their prices. Much as I have resisted doing so, I now sadly have NO choice. Hence, it is with a heavy heart....that SOME of the prices here are somewhat revised, but none above a 10% increase.
