Gong Li Rocks

Thanks to the diligence of young civil engineer, we managed to get tickets for Memoirs of A Geisha. To sum it up, I personally loved the movie. I thought Gong Li, more than Zhang Zi Yi deserved a nomination for the Golden Globes. Then again, I'm biased. Gong Li was deliciously evil, in the movie, almost as good as Maleficent (see pic)
....who is my all time favourite lady villain.

And the little girl in the movie, sigh, ever since I got a baby girl, any scene involving young girls suffering, or father and daughter scenes, like bruce willis and watsername in armageddon, is liable to reduce me to a whimpering sobbing fool. Films with young girls that have really pulled at the heartstrings are......
this one, of course, Memoirs, KING OF MASKS, (another chinese show....after all no one does melodrama like the chinese. Ultra tragedy, and as the good doctor says, even the dog dies in the movie). Actually, I should mention that I thought our home grown Dato Michelle Yeoh did a good job too for her role as the other leading geisha. She was actually very likeable; and while she is no spring chicken, she still looks good.

In contrast to suffering little girls, we have fat little happy boys. Thank goodness his "I DONT WANNA GO TO SCHOOL" phase is over, and this is a picture of him this morning on his way to school. There have been reports about him doing an Oliver Twist during snack time in Kindy, ie, ...."May I have some more".....except it's more likely to be, "I WANT SOME MORE".

PUBLIC TOILET TRAINING BODY STEP CLASS

That's how I refer to yesterday's Body Step class at lunchtime with FSI. SOOOOOO MANY SQUATS. At least 4 tracks contained squats of some kind. And when you are approaching 40, squats aren't exactly the kind of thing that looks dignified, not to mention the ache on every part of your buttocks afterwards. You know how in Malaysian public toilets, its safer to use the squat loos, so that your skin doesn't come into contact with any of the toilet bowl? Yeah, this workout is guaranteed to help you do prolonged squatting over the squat toilet. Evil twin should do some of these exercises, as he earned his nickname Guoman Arse because he couldn't squat to poo at the squat loos in the Methodist Centre in PD, and had to sneak out to the Guoman to do his business.

Squats notwithstanding, it was a great class, coz finally we veered from the latest release and was doing something different, after what? 3 weeks.

Squats also remind me of FCI, and his trademark song, NOT GONNA GET US by Tatu. It probably is one of the hardest and longest conditioning tracks in Body Combat.

Didn't know that Michelle Yeoh was DATO! But, did you know that she hails from the good ole village of Ipoh! and from my school too, nonetheless! and is the sister of my friend!!!!! Yul Brynner's widow was also from my school!

pray tell who is yul brynner's widow? anna hathaway ah? yup, michelle yeoh got a rightly deserved datukship. i think she's actually a DATUK...meaning its a federal award...as opposed to DATO which is state.
re your other comment about recruiting choir members, of course i am NOT the choirmaster larrrrr........i was in the xmas cantata committee.

It's a state award from the Sultan of Perak methinks...

shades, you're right:

Kuala Lumpur, 19 April 2001 - Malaysia's very own Bond Girl and now International Superstar, Michelle Yeoh, has been conferred the Datukship title. The former Miss Malaysia will be conferred the Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP) award by Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, in conjunction with his 73rd Birthday today. She was reportedly very surprised to be conferred the title and is now in a big hurry to get ready for the ceremony.

Cinema Online, April 2001

Coulda sworn only FEDERAL datuks get spelt as DATUKS. Not that it matters lah, throw a stone, more likely to hit a datuk than a fitness instructor. (though at the rate they're churning out combat instructors, the numbers may soon be equal)

Yul Brynner was the king in the king and I for goodness knows how long. I think he was the longest playing actor in a single role? His widow was one of the 'queens' in the musical in London. Quite anon, but obviously wealthy now! Shows you don't have to pass all your exams!

i was told that it was agreed by the newspapers to standardise everyone as Datuk, so that there wont be inconsistencies... although you are right, it should be for federal conferments only, whilst state ones should be Dato'.... which just goes to show you can't rely on your newspapers for accuracy....

:P

You can't standardise the title because it's an official title... only certain states use "Dato'"...

fatboy to MC: haiya, of coursee i know who yul brynner is larrr... i meant who is his widow? wasnt "anna" in the "king and i" anna hathaway? oh, shoot, no lah, that's shakespeare's wife. anna what ah? in the movie, she was played by deborah kerr, one of the classiest dames ever to appear on screen.
"they your flock and you the only RAM, no wonder you're the wonder of SIAM"....
